Whose Dreams Are You Making Come True?

It has taken me a few days to be able to write this blog post. Our daughter Natalie left Sunday with her dad to drive to California to start her first job after graduating from Georgia Tech in May.

I have been weepy and feeling sorry for myself and generally having a hard time of it.

But I am starting to come back around to how I felt before she actually left.

I am so proud of her for following her dreams—not mine, not her dad’s, not “society’s,” but hers.

She set a goal in high school to attend Georgia Tech and worked hard to get in. While she was there, she took advantage of the co-op program they offered and did three co-ops with Marathon Petroleum Company. She is now headed to her first full-time job as a chemical engineer with Marathon.

For now, this is her dream, and she is making it come true.

Who knows what her next dream will be? I surely do not.

But one thing I do know: It will be her dream, and she will work hard to make it come true.
