Bloom Where You Are Planted
I remember many times in my life when I felt out of place, like I did not belong, like I was not where I was meant to be.
When I was young, it seemed like I could not grow up fast enough. I wanted to be an adult, on my own, working and earning my own money.
Then when I graduated from college and started my career, I thought there was a perfect job out there for me somewhere. I enjoyed the work I was doing, yet I was always looking for something else.
Then I had a boss who said this: 25% of your job you love, 25% of your job you hate, and 50% of your job is just a job.
What a gift that realization was—that no job is perfect and that it is OK to dislike some of what is required of you.
It made me realize that even if I was not in my dream job, I could do the best I could to grow and expand right where I was.
I realized that I could be great in the moment—not yesterday, not tomorrow, not when, and not if. Right then. Right there.
I learned the importance of blooming where I was planted.
I have made it a point to try to blossom no matter where I am planted, and this attitude has made all the difference.
