Are You a Creator or a Consumer?
How do you spend your spare time? Do you spend it creating—pursuing your passions, bringing new ideas into the world? Or are you simply consuming, sitting in front of the TV, taking in what others have produced?
There’s nothing inherently wrong with consuming, but it’s worth reflecting on how and why we do it. Consuming with purpose—like taking a class or reading a book to develop a skill—differs from passively “vegging out” without direction.
Most of us are a mix of both creators and consumers. I know I am. I enjoy consuming inspiring content, but ultimately, I want to be more of a creator. Creating offers fulfillment, a sense of purpose, and the opportunity to leave a mark on the world.
As I work toward becoming more of a creator, I’ll still take time to enjoy what others have made. Watching a good show or reading a great book can fuel creativity and spark new ideas. But I’m setting a goal to shift the balance—toward creating more, sharing more, and contributing more.
So, what about you? Are you a creator, a consumer, or somewhere in between? And if you aspire to create more, what steps will you take to make it happen?
