Ed and I are in the Boston airport waiting to head back to Savannah after seeing our son James perform in The Sorcerer as part of the Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert & Sullivan Players. He played J.W. Wells, a.k.a., the sorcerer. I may be a little bit biased, but I think the entire troupe did a terrific job on the show.

I absolutely love going to the theater. Any kind of performance will do, but musicals are my favorite. It is so much fun to sit in the audience and soak it all in—to be a consumer.

But after a few days of watching what other people created, I got the itch to create something myself, so I sat down to write this blog post.

Are you a creator or a consumer? How do you spend your spare time? Do you create or just sit in front of the TV consuming what other people have come up with?

Consuming in pursuit of a goal is different, so taking classes or reading books on craft is different from just sitting around and vegging out.

I guess I’m a combination of both consumer and creator, but ultimately, I want to be more of a creator. I’ll keep working on this, and in the meantime, I’ll take the time to watch some good shows.
