Dealing with Tension

Every once in a while, I get a little knot in my shoulder or back. I have one now. Sometimes it goes away by itself, and sometimes it takes visit to the chiropractor to fix. Either way, I am always left wondering what caused it in the first place.

Usually, this annoying little knot happens because of some sort of tension I am experiencing. We just dropped our youngest child off at college, so at least this time I know why I am feeling it.

But not for the first time, I think how nice it would be if I could learn to deal with tension in a more constructive way than getting stressed out, hunching up my shoulders, and getting a knot in my back.

Instead of putting the tension I am feeling into my shoulders, I wish I could remember to get rid of it by eating real, whole food, exercising, saying my prayers, and simply relaxing.

At least I know I am doing this, and I am working on the issue. At least I am not dealing with the tension with really bad habits like smoking or taking drugs.

But still, I know this is something I have to work on. This week, I am really going to focus on where I put my tension.
