Breaking Bad or Good

I love the idea of word play and how by changing one syllable, a word can mean something entirely different. Take breakout and breakdown for instance.

Breakout is such a positive word. It means to separate from the crowd, to take the lead, or to just do something differently from everybody else.

Breakdown, on the other hand, is a negative word. Your car can breakdown, your body can breakdown, and communications between two people can breakdown.

Just one syllable can make the difference between success and failure.

So much of how our days, weeks, months, and years go are out of our control. We are faced with unexpected twists and turns, but the beauty of being human is that we get to decide if we are going to or breakout or breakdown when those unexpected moments hit.

I cannot imagine a situation where breaking out is a bad thing, except maybe from prison and with acne. But otherwise, think of the ways we can shine by breaking out—we can invent something new, improve upon an old idea, and maybe even get better at communicating with others.

I try to be a light for others and encourage people to find their own light so they, in turn, can be a light for others. The more we all shine, the more we can all have breakout moments.

We don’t have to show up as our best selves every day if we don’t want to—we don’t have to find our light and shine it on others. We don’t have to breakout. We can choose to breakdown.

But why would we want to do that?

I hope we all make the choice to show up as our best selves each and every day and share our light with others.

Breakout today.
